Digi-Key Corporation's 2010 Success Leads to More Hiring in 2011

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minnesota, USA - January 14, 2011

Despite economic strain and recent high national unemployment rates, Digi-Key Corporation has maintained a formidable presence in the global electronic components industry and hired more than 670 new employees at its Thief River Falls location in 2010. As of January 2011, the company currently employs more than 2,400 and plans to add many more jobs in 2011.

A Billion-Dollar Company

As of December 2010, Digi-Key surpassed $1.5 billion in worldwide sales, representing an increase of more than 63% from the prior year, when sales were less than $1 billion.

"Digi-Key began in Thief River Falls in the 1970s with a handful of employees and a new concept of distribution," said Mark Larson, Digi-Key's president and COO. "Now we maintain a global presence in the electronic component distribution business. We hope to continue this success with the unique customer-centered business philosophy that relies on the dedication of our growing workforce."

Room for More

Digi-Key hired more people in 2010 than any prior year in the company's history.

"We are very pleased that our advertising campaign and a variety of other staffing initiatives resulted in our reaching a broader candidate pool than in the past, which in turn helped us hire at levels that satisfied most of the hiring demand that accompanied our extremely rapid 2010 sales growth," said Rick Trontvet, Digi-Key's vice president of human resources. "We hope to continue to pursue the same and other new hiring initiatives in 2011 so that we can continue to hire enough people to satisfy further expected sales growth."

Digi-Key provides its employees with ongoing training and career development opportunities, as well as benefits that include paid time off; medical, dental, life and disability insurance; a 401(k) profit sharing retirement plan; in addition to a clean, comfortable work environment.

Career Expo

One component of Digi-Key's 2011 hiring plan will be a community Career Expo on Saturday, January 22, 2011 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Best Western Hotel, 1060 Highway 32 South, in Thief River Falls, Minnesota. Those seeking employment will be able to fill out applications, participate in pre-employment testing, and interview with Digi-Key representatives at this event.

"We are aggressively hiring in many different areas including sales and order fulfillment. We hope that this month's Career Expo will attract many potential employees who can contribute to the growth and success of Digi-Key," said Trontvet.
